You know the suicide bombing that goes on in Israel? The loose metal & glass that goes hurtling through the air is shrapnel. The world broke, sin exploded, and pieces of pain having been shredding humanity for generations ever since.
Just thinking about our family can get a wound throbbing, even wounds we thought were healed.
You know how some people are always on edge? Like they have that “burr under their saddle?” You know how you react sometimes and don’t know how to stop yourself? Me too … imagine instead there’s shrapnel underneath. Time only heals the surface, it take surgery to remove shrapnel.
"And how am I supposed to find a surgeon for my ‘Emotional Shrapnel’ Meg?! I’ve been to counseling! It didn’t help!"
The only thing that has helped me - let me repeat that -
The only thing that has helped me is asking Jesus Christ to come into my memories.
When Jesus comes into my memories, He shows me How He Felt about what happened.
When I was with my family recently, I finally realized just How Much Stuff I actually had! A profound turnaround, as a kid I Whined about how much other girls had and how much I LOVED DOLLS and how I Wanted More Dolls! You get the drift.
Fast forward ten years. I decided this visit to ease my mom’s crowded basement and take stuff back with me. Sorting through books & rediscovering my toy joy, I thanked God for my parents good decisions. I mean seriously … What would I do if I had 15 porcelain dolls?! I live in the most adorable apartment but it doesn’t have much storage space. I still love dolls as much as ever, but I also love simply decorated, uncluttered rooms! If I had all the dolls my heart desired there would be no room for them and I’d be dealing with the angst-filled struggle of selling them online.
My realization: Life is a journey; travel light. Don’t waste time gathering pebbles in the valley, they’ll weigh you down hiking the mountainpeaks!
With that said, I don’t need a white purse. I already have one in ivory!
I LOVE MUSIC! My life revolves around it! With music I dance, sing, act out stories, film, drum the rhythm and write poetry. Ever since I gave up piano scales, I’ve dreamt of one day playing bass guitar.
I also enjoy supporting musical artists with my hard earned dollars. And when spending $13.99 on a full album, I want to connect to every song. But which artist should I invest in?
Spotify is a new music service that allows you to listen to entire albums for free, create playlists with your friends, and share new music on Facebook. For very reasonable $10 dollars a month, Spotify allows you to put playlists on your devices and plays advertisement free.
This completely revolutionizes the way I take in music! Instead of researching an artist by wading through youtube videos, I can go to Spotify and listen to everything they ever released and collaborated on! I am excited to finally research many artists whose singles I’ve enjoyed and listen album by album to experience an artist’s complete musical journey. If I like them, I’ll download a track. If I love them, I’ll buy a cd. If I ADORE them, I’ll give away my cd & buy a replacement!
Spotify is revolutionizing music and I’m passing the revolution forward. By listening to more artists, I will buy more music, create more art and change the world one listener at a time. How are you going to pass the revolution forward?
What did you learn about yourself last year? Here’s my 2011 Realizations I’m applying to 2012!
Simplicity Creates Consistency
For me, thinking about consistency is guilt inducing. In reading John Maxwell, I realized if I can keep life simple, life will be consistent! Basic stuff like eating when I’m hungry, putting things away, leaving for work early, and washing dishes (*sigh* … still struggling with that one!)
Art is an Overflow of Life
Last year this time I thought I was going to have to cut out time with people to be more productive with my “art.” I’ve realized it’s quite the opposite: relationships with people reveal life which is the context for art and its dialogue. I’ve helped more people and thought of more ideas in 2011 than ever before! Here’s to 2012!
And the bonus … Biking wakes me up in the morning!
And getting up in the morning is the hardest thing in the world for a night owl like me! 10pm to 2am is the most creative time of the “day!”
Applying New Ideas for Old Struggles is the idea
Yes, I have goals for 2012 but seriously … how intimidating is it to do everything you resolve? Even for people in shape, it’s a constant battle to “recommit” to working out! If I dance & bike more than I did last year it will be a good year. My thought is “How Am I Going To Do Dance/Work/Life Better?” As I go along I figure out how. If it’s any proof, my house is more clean and beautiful than it’s ever been … just don’t look in my kitchen sink!
And I’m privilaged to know many! Now I’m sure you’re asking “can I get an introduction?” Well, that depends on a lot of things and my first suggestion is become a Ruby Lady. A “Ruby Lady?” Yes! these fine young men are looking for a woman worth the pursuit, someone who will stand behind them in the good times and the bad!
Thoughts on Becoming a Ruby Lady:
1) Let God make your Soul Beautiful
Do you want to be the adorable old couple, and have your husband open the door for you even when neither of you can really walk? Yes, yes you do. Well, what do you think keeps them together at that age? (‘Cause we know it’s not the hot ‘n heavy!) We want a man to love us for US. For our inner person. For Our Soul.
I don’t know about you, but I want that to start at the beginning.
2) Be Respectable
Before he can love us, a good man wants to respect us. “A good man wants to respect me? Why?” Because it’s his language, trust me. It goes back to being that adorable old couple. Also, a good man knows intrinsically a woman who respects herself in a healthy way will know how to respect him and a man’s heart only opens when he is respected.
3) Show Respect
Be Kind! Be Polite! Be Positive! Be Encouraging! Be a Listener! Be a Friend! Don’t belittle or tease … ESPECIALLY IN PUBLIC!!! This is a language we definitely have trouble learning, myself included. More thoughts on this to come …
4) Live a Full Life!
In accord with everything else I just wrote: What is it you really want to do? Photography? Learn a language? Hang glide? DREAM BIG! The more vibrantly & confidently you live, the easier it is to discover shared interests! After all, guys are friends first and good conversation helps a friendship move forward!
